FAQs: Everything You Need to Know Before Your Ride

We know that planning your adventure is just as important as the ride itself. That’s why we’ve put together the answers to our most frequently asked questions, so you can feel confident and prepared before hitting the road. Whether you’re curious about our bikes, routes, or the nitty-gritty details, you’ll find the answers right here. If you still have questions, just get in touch—we’re always here to help you get ready for the ride of a lifetime.

What kind of roads can we expect?

Expect smooth, scenic rides on Ireland’s asphalt and tarmac roads, especially along the Wild Atlantic Way, which has been extensively resurfaced. While you might encounter the occasional bump or pothole on smaller backroads, our BMWs with active suspension handle everything with ease. Remember, riding in Ireland demands full attention and is best suited to intermediate riders who are ready for a thrilling adventure.

Do I need to be an experienced rider?

Yes, we require riders to have held a full motorcycle license for at least 2 years and be a competent, regular rider with at least 5,000 km logged in the past 24 months. Our scenic routes often include narrow switchbacks and twisty roads, making them better suited to intermediate or experienced riders. If you’re unsure of your skills, we can arrange for an instructor to ride with you on your first day. For those new to adventure bikes, you’ll be pleasantly surprised at how accessible and enjoyable they are to ride.

Who can rent our bikes?

We welcome all qualified motorcyclists aged 25-70 with a full motorcycle license held for at least 2 years. Riders over 70 may still be eligible but require pre-clearance from our insurers. Please contact us if you have a license from a country not listed on our website or if you have any specific conditions. For those carrying a passenger, you must be between 30 and 70 years old. Certain restrictions apply, including exclusions for recent driving bans, multiple driving offences, or unspent criminal convictions.

Can I ride off-road?

Our bikes are designed for public road use only. However, some of Ireland’s remote mountain roads offer the feel of riding off the beaten path, delivering an exhilarating experience that feels worlds away from the motorway.

Do you offer roadside assistance?

Yes, all our bikes are maintained to the highest standards, but in the unlikely event of a breakdown, we provide 24/7 roadside assistance through our insurers. You’ll have peace of mind knowing help is just a phone call away, allowing you to focus on enjoying your ride.

What are the key points from your Terms & Conditions?
  • You must hold a full motorcycle license for 2 years or more.
  • You are responsible for the upkeep of the motorcycle, accessories, and riding gear.
  • Motorcycling is dangerous; you and your passenger ride at your own risk.
  • Bikes are rented with full tanks and should be returned full.
  • You must have experience riding similar performance bikes on narrow, twisty roads.
  • If you crash the bike, your rental or tour ends. Replacement bikes are provided only for mechanical failures.
How can I get to Lemonrock HQ?

Our HQ is conveniently located in Baldoyle, halfway between Dublin Airport and Dublin city center. We recommend spending your first night at The Grand Hotel Malahide and wrapping up your adventure with a final night in Dublin’s vibrant city center.

Dublin Airport Transfer: For tour customers booking accommodations with us, we offer a complimentary chauffeur service from Dublin Airport to Malahide, from Malahide to Lemonrock HQ, and from your last night’s hotel back to the airport. Rental customers can also use this service for €130 per one-way trip (up to 3 people). Check with your Lemonrock Account Manager for more details.

What information do I need to bring with me to ride your motorcycles?

Speed up your check-in by:

  • Emailing us a scanned copy of your license (front and back) before you arrive.
  • Informing us of your clothing size if you’re renting riding gear from us.
  • Bringing a credit card with sufficient funds to cover your preferred Damage Deposit Waiver.
Is insurance included?

Yes, all rental prices include comprehensive insurance, allowing you to ride legally on Irish roads (and in other European countries with prior permission). Our insurance also covers third-party liability, theft, and damage with a first loss of €2,500, which can be reduced with an additional Waiver Deposit Fee. Note that this does not cover personal accidents for you or your passenger—we highly recommend taking out personal accident insurance.

Can I use my own insurance?

No, it’s not possible to use personal insurance for our motorcycles. Our comprehensive insurance is mandatory to ensure full coverage for all riders.

Can you collect me from my hotel/airport/train?

Yes, we offer private chauffeur transfers for our tour customers from Dublin Airport and Dublin City Centre hotels to Malahide or Lemonrock HQ.

How far should I plan to ride each day?

While it’s personal preference, keep in mind that 250 km on Ireland’s scenic, winding roads often takes a full day, with stops for photos, lunch, and soaking up the views. Unlike long highway stretches, these picturesque routes are designed for leisurely exploration, not high-speed travel.

Do you provide riding gear?

Yes, we offer EU-approved helmets, jackets, pants, gloves, boots, and rain suits at a nominal daily rate. We primarily stock HJC helmets, with some Nolan and Caberg models. If you prefer using your own gear, that’s perfectly fine too—just be sure it’s comfortable and protective for long rides.

Can you store my excess luggage?

Absolutely! We provide secure storage for your luggage at our HQ while you’re out riding. Although we ensure it’s safe, we can’t take responsibility for stored items.

Can I ship my riding gear to you ahead of the trip?

Yes, you can ship your riding gear to us in advance. Just let us know so we can keep an eye out for your delivery. Alternatively, we offer a full range of rental gear, including helmets, jackets, gloves, and boots for a small daily fee.

How can I check if my preferred bike is available?

Simply use our online booking form, select your dates, and choose your preferred bike. Our system will instantly tell you if it’s available or booked out. You can proceed with booking or request a quote via email.

What type of luggage system is fitted to your bikes?

All our BMWs come with factory OEM “Vario” luggage systems, including a top box that doubles as a passenger backrest. Additional side panniers are available for rental. We also provide pannier liners for easy handling. Our other bikes, including Suzuki, Harley, and Honda models, come equipped with tailored luggage systems to suit your touring needs.

Should I choose the Standard or Factory Lowered BMW R1250GS?

The standard R1250GS is ideal if you’re accustomed to the higher stance of adventure bikes. Riders under 5’8” may prefer the lowered version, especially when riding with a passenger. Both bikes offer outstanding handling and comfort, even if you’re new to adventure riding.

Can I attach my own equipment to your motorcycles?

You’re welcome to attach your own accessories, as long as they don’t damage the bike. Let us know your requirements in advance, and we’ll do our best to accommodate.
