Frequently Asked Questions about Motorcycle Rentals

What kind of roads can we expect?
Expect smooth, scenic rides on Ireland’s tarmac and asphalt roads, especially along the Wild Atlantic Way—one of the most famous motorcycle routes in Ireland, known for its breathtaking coastline and well-maintained surface. Some smaller backroads may have occasional bumps or potholes, but our BMW motorcycles with active suspension easily handle these conditions with minimal disturbance to you. Riding in Ireland requires your full attention and is best suited for intermediate riders ready for a thrilling, immersive experience.
Do I need to be an experienced rider?

Yes. To rent a motorcycle in Ireland or the UK with Lemonrock, you must have held a full motorcycle license for at least 2 years and be a confident, regular rider with at least 5,000 km logged over the past 24 months. Our scenic routes often include twisty mountain roads, narrow passes, and challenging switchbacks, only suitable for intermediate or experienced riders. If you’re unsure of your skill level, we can arrange for a local instructor to ride with you on your first day. And if you’re new to renting a motorcycle in Ireland, we’ll make the logistics and travel part easy.

    Who can rent our bikes?

We welcome all qualified riders aged 25 to 70 with a full, valid motorcycle license held for at least 24 months. Riders over 70 may still qualify with pre-clearance from our insurer. If you’re planning to carry a passenger (pillion), the rider must be between 30 and 70 years old. Please contact us if your license is from outside the EU, UK, or North America, or if you have any specific conditions. Motorcycle rentals in Ireland are subject to standard safety and insurance restrictions, including exclusions for recent driving bans, excessive driving offences, or unspent criminal convictions.

    Can I ride off-road?
Our motorbike rentals in Ireland are intended for public road use only. However, Ireland is full of remote mountain passes and backroads that feel wonderfully off the beaten path. These hidden routes often deliver the same sense of freedom and adventure without the need for off-road riding.
    Do you offer roadside assistance?
Yes, all of our rental motorcycles in Ireland are maintained to the highest standard, but if anything goes wrong, 24/7 roadside assistance is included through our insurance provider. If you need help with a mechanical issue or just have a question while on the road, our team is only a phone call away.
What are the key points from your Terms & Conditions?
    • You must hold a full motorcycle license for 2 years or more.
    • You are responsible for the upkeep of the motorcycle, accessories, and riding gear.
    • Motorcycling is dangerous; you and your passenger ride at your own risk.
    • Bikes are rented with full tanks and should be returned full.
    • You must have experience riding similar performance bikes on narrow, twisty roads.
    • If you crash the bike, your rental or tour ends. Replacement bikes are provided only for mechanical failures.
Can you rent a motorcycle in Ireland if you’re visiting from abroad?

Yes, absolutely! Lemonrock welcomes riders from all over the world. As long as you meet our licensing and insurance requirements, you can rent a motorcycle in Ireland whether you’re visiting from the US, Canada, Australia, or elsewhere. We recommend checking your home country’s licensing agreements with Ireland or contacting us directly with questions.
